What does the Bible say about the uniqueness of two people like Jacob and Esau?

Isn’t it amazing how no two people have the same fingerprints? God creates each of us as unique individuals. Even before you are born, God knows all about you (Psalm 139:13-16). Celebrate diversity, accept the differences between people, and thank God for what makes you unique.

How does the story of Jacob and Esau show that our actions have consequences?

All actions have consequences, whether big or small, positive or negative, short-lived or long-lasting. “If…then” is a “cause-effect” principle in life that we see throughout the Bible. Back in the beginning, there were consequences to Adam and Eve’s actions, which affect every human being – including you. Your actions affect not only you but others, as well. Try to think of possible consequences before you act.

Should you seek out forgiveness when you have wronged somebody?

God is quick to forgive us – but we aren’t always so quick to forgive others. The Bible teaches us that God is a forgiving God. When we seek His forgiveness, He has PROMISED to forgive us (1 John 1:9). Jesus spoke a lot about forgiveness when He was on earth and emphasized the importance of forgiveness. Jesus said, “Forgive others, and you will be forgiven” (Luke 6:37). He also warned us of the consequences of unforgiveness in the parable of the Unforgiving Debtor (Matthew 18:23-35). The parable of the Lost Son (Luke 15) emphasizes repentance but also illustrates how we need to make an effort and seek forgiveness when we have wronged someone.

How is forgiveness like a gift?

Forgiveness is a gift that you can give or receive. It is a gift that sets you free from fear, bitterness, and even revenge. The Bible teaches that you should “be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32). Jesus gives a serious warning about not forgiving: “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins” (Matthew 6:14-15). Take this warning to heart because, like with any gift, it is you who decides if you will give or withhold forgiveness.

How does Jacob's life show that you cannot outrun God?

Back in Jacob's time, people believed that their gods were only in the places where they lived. However, Jacob learned that the Lord God is everywhere. While on the run from his brother, his dream made him realize that God was still with him. You can run from people, but you cannot run or hide from God. God has promised to be with you always.
