How can we respond to our own "Job" moments?

God loves you and is sad when you are sad. We live in a sinful world where bad things sometimes happen, even if we don't do anything wrong. Jesus said, "I am with you always…" (Matthew 28:20). The Bible says that God will never fail you or abandon you (Deuteronomy 31:6). When bad things happen, turn to Jesus and ask Him to be with you, to give you strength, and to comfort you. Take time to praise the Lord and pray every day. King David writes, "Praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms" (Psalms 68:19). Throughout the Bible, we see where the people of God praised Him and He delivered them. As we pray and praise God, He will fight on our behalf, as well.

What other godly Bible characters suffered like Job?

Jesus was without sin, yet he was tempted by the devil and died on the cross for our sins. Joseph was sent into slavery, then to prison, even though he didn't do anything to deserve it. Daniel was thrown into the lions' den just for praying to God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown in the fiery furnace because they refused to bow to the golden statue. Stephen was stoned for being a witness for Jesus.

What do you do if you’re falsely accused like Job?

Job's wife and his friends thought that Job did something wrong and was being punished by God. Job would not repent for something he didn't do. Instead, he took his case to God and asked God to defend him. We should tell the truth to those who accuse us, and forgive and love them, even if they don't believe us at first. Many times God will show the truth to those around us. We must let Him be our defender.

How do we keep praising God when things are hard?

The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord always…" That means that even when we don't feel like praising God, we need to do so as an act of our faith. To drive home this point, Paul repeats himself in the second half of the verse, "I will say it again, rejoice." The Bible says that we can tell ourselves to praise God, even if we don't feel like doing it. King David declared in Psalm 103:1, "Bless the Lord, oh my soul; and all that is within me bless His holy name." God will do powerful things in our lives if we praise Him.

When bad things happen and you don't feel like praising Him, ask the Holy Spirit to give you grace and help to praise Him in the midst of the trial. You will see God move on your behalf as you give Him praise in all things, and even for all things.

What does the Bible say about hope and restoration?

Job is a wonderful example of God's restoration power in the life of someone who trusts in Him. In Joel 2:25, the Lord says, "I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts…" The Apostle Paul writes, "[W]e know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them" (Romans 8:28). If we praise God and keep our hearts pure, in His time, He will restore all things.
